The first jauntily wrapped box held a wrapped hand. Others hid more parts. Best was the severed head. He kissed his wife: “You’re so sweet.”

Uncle Ron thought he was funny, giving Tommy some batteries as a gag gift. Tommy regifted them right back: first the lead, then the acid.

The wooden blocks Anna got for Christmas were infested with tiny blue ants. They stung her, and she heard them sing in their native Chinese.

“Conjuring is so tiring,” sighed Abe. “But I swear, with ten pipers piping, there won’t be a rat left in the entire province by New Year’s.”

Facedown on cobblestones, Jack felt the power building inside as the boys jeered. Unleash it now and they’d never see another Christmas.
